Inspiring Women Awards 2023

Last Friday 19th May, I got myself dressed up and went to the Inspiring Women Awards at The Lowry Hotel in Salford where I had been invited to be the guest speaker.

Wow! What a day. All the stories of the nominees were incredible and it confirmed for me that human beings are amazing, but especially women.

The stories covered ingenuity, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit but it also covered our capacity to derive good from extremely challenging situations.

My bit was a Q&A about the row and the questions were really excellent. They included what I hoped to achieve and what the legacy would be, how I was going to cope mentally and what advice I would give to anyone who thought they might be peri-menopausal.

Surprisingly, no one asked me about the on-board toilet facilities!

I asked them if they had a menopause policy at work and, out of a room of 200 women, only 5 raised their hands. More hands went up when I asked if they’d like a menopause policy and pointed them towards the work of The Menopause Charity and Dr Louise Newson.

I was honoured and humbled to be included in this prestigious event and look forward to returning in 2025 to tell them all about the row – with action shots!
